Project on Palestinian Refugees

There have been extensive studies by Israeli, Arab, and other researchers on the subject of Palestinian refugees, yet most of the work to date is viewed as being highly partisan. This project seeks to create an in-depth study of this highly complex issue in an effort to provide a substantial record of the actual historical, political and practical aspects related to the situation, especially as the refugee issue is considered one of the main obstacles in the peace process. The report will help clarify the reasons why in sixty years this problem has not been solved and offer some practical and innovative recommendations.

This project on Palestinian refugees aims to identify commonalities and differences with a view to promote empathy for the suffering of the victims, and at the same time to dispel myths that continue to cause misunderstanding.

A meeting was convened by the IHJR in Salzburg, Austria from February 14 to 18, 2010 with key experts.

The report will be disseminated to policy makers, scholars, educators, the media and other related institutions in print and electronically both regionally and internationally.

Project timeframe

The joint report is expected to be published by February 2011.
